ATS HOOPS Overall – CBB: 24-19 NBA: 70-72
I feel like I'm ready to turn the ATS corner Homeboys!
KANSAS JAYHAWKS (-4.5) @ TEXAS LONGHORNS
I know playing in Austin is an ATS no-no for a road favorite, but I’ve watched a lot of Longhorn basketball over the last few weeks and have not come away too impressed. While D.J. Augustin may be the best PG in the land and the streaky shooting AJ Abrams can catch fire, besides that tiny-tandem the Longhorns don’t really have many legit scoring options. And tonight, those two will be matched against the veteran, defensive-minded backcourt mates of the Jayhawks (Mario Chalmers & Russell Robinson), with additional help from the speedy bowling-bowl Sherron Collins. As for the KU frontcourt, they have twice as many inside-threats as Texas with the smooth moves of 6-9 Darrell Arthur (14 ppg, 6 rpg, 2 bpg, & 53-fg%), the power of 6-8 Darnell Jackson (12 ppg, 7 rpg, & 65-fg%), and the spastic-energy of 6-11 Sasha Kaun (8 ppg, 4 rpg, 1.5 bpg, & 64-fg%). While PF Damion James...
While PF Damion James (13 ppg & 11 rpg) has been phenomenal around the rim for the Horns, he’s more of a garbage-man around the bucket and has done most of his statistical damage against smaller frontcourts. Against the beefy-frontcourt of the Sooners last week, James only scored 2-points and managed 8 rebounds in 25 foul-plagued minutes. As for the final dagger that will lead to a Jayhawk cover, I haven’t even mentioned Jr. swingman Brandon Rush (13 ppg, 5 rpg, & 41 3pt%) who will be looking to bounce back from a terrible shooting day Saturday…Jayhawks by 8-12 points
LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS @ MILWAUKEE BUCKS (-3.5)
The Bucks stated last week that the next few games would make-or-break their season…and they proceeded to follow that up with an embarrassing last-second loss to the Knicks Saturday. While Michael Redd returned from his knee-injury to drop 21 points and Desmond Mason had his best game since he returned to action last week (15 ppg & 7 rpg), they were without arguable their best player this season in Mo Williams (last 2 games: 34 ppg, 6 apg, & 55-fg%) because of the flu. With tonight being a must win, I can’t see Mo Williams (probable) missing another game. In addition, their facing a Clipper squad playing the finale of a 7-game road-trip and probably aren't too excited to leave their hotel suite for below-zero temperatures and a tilt with the Bucks. You can’t tell me Sam “I should be a model” Cassell isn’t talking to his agent all day about getting a trade/buy-out done before tip-off. If the Bucks blow this one, not only will their coach be fired immediately after, but they’ll be blackballed from Insideplays.com forever…Bucks by 8-12 points
NBA TEASER SPECIAL
LA LAKERS (teased -4.5) @ CHARLOTTE BOBCATS
Without do-everything forward Gerald Wallace (21 ppg, 6 rpg, & 4 apg), the Cats O Bob slide from a terrible NBA team to an average NBDL squad. In their last contest, a 26-point loss at Detroit, they actually started Jared Dudley in Wallace’s place and gave Jermareo Davidson 20 minutes of PT! While the Lakers are playing a back-to-back, they’ve look energized since the Gasol trade and Kobe’s been playing like a man possessed. Especially with the team still trying to fit Pau into the mix, look for the Lakers to do more than go-through-the-motions and continue to make the league take notice of their newfound dominance…Lakers by 10-14 points
WASHINGTON WIZ @ GOLDEN ST WARRIORS (teased -5.5)
While the undermanned Wiz (Daniels, Butler, & Arenus out) played well against the undermanned Suns in a 1-point loss, a back-to-back against Nellie’s running swingmen is not recommended by ATS doctors. Especially with a tilt in LA on Hump Day and then almost a week-off before resuming at home, I’d be surprised if Daniels (ques-ankle) and Butler (ques-hip) suit-up the rest of the trip. While Jamison & Haywood played extremely well in PHX (as expected w/ Diaw forced to start in alongside Amare), I’m guessing their legs will be a little tired to be running with Biedrins, Harrington, & S-Jax (questionable) all night. In addition, the Warriors haven’t played well in their last two home games, especially Baron Davis (12-43 from the field), so expect the bearded-wonder to drop some ridiculous numbers on the Wiz and to get all his teammates involved. Especially with 3rd-string PG Roger Mason Jr. as the expected match-up for him tonight, this could get ugly in a hurry…Warriors by 10-14 points
