I have officially reached a new all time low, fortunately it has to do with my degenerative ways and not my picks(or pics). It is officially 4:14am on Saturday and I can’t friggin’ sleep. I awoke this morning with what felt like a railroad spike in my head(never mix keg beer with mixers), and I immediately thought of one thing….I can try to go back to sleep for another couple hours or I can get in front of the computer and get 3 hours of gambling/sports knowledge in my head while the family is sleeping. You can see what I chose. I will need your complete focus on the hardcourt today, my friends, just pretend that the pigskin thing happening tomorrow is fake, much like 80% of the tata’s that you see on insideplays.com. I bring you winna’s this fine Saturday, and winna’s bring lettuce which means you can upgrade to the $10 bottle of wine for your lady. Make sure that you check back a couple times this weekend cuz we will be giving an in depth analysis on Sunday Funday and this thing called the Superbowl. Good Luck!
Purdue +5 @ Illinois
In general, I am not a big fan of putting funds on the road team in the Big Ten, but this one is obnoxious. Matt Painter is slowly putting together a Boilermaker team that is magically tied for first place. The thing I really like about that is that they aren’t ranked yet, which means that no one is giving them the respect they deserve while all the coaches just get pissed when they walk away with a loss from a team that wasn’t suppose to be anything. What I like even more is the fact that they just beat the Illini by 7 two weeks ago, they hit their free throws(71%), and they have a 9 player rotation that all average between 19-21 minutes a game. How bout that for playing as a team. I will be taking this one w/o the points, but a +5 is a lock. Purdue by 3.
Drake -4 @ Indiana State
The last good thing to come out of Indiana State was a guy named Bird in the late ’70’s, for some reason I don’t think that will help them much today. On the Drake side, not only did they throttle the Sycamores by 25 less than a month ago, they are led by Keno Davis, who happens to be the son of Dr. Tom Davis, the great coach of the Iowa Hawkeyes for several years. Coach Davis has this team playing with a level of confidence that is hard to match, and when a team believes in the system they do great things. This one will be closer than 25, but not by much. Drake wins by 12 as they try to lock in a 4-6 seed in the big dance.
UTEP teased to +26 @ Memphis
I mentioned a few weeks back that I have been watching spreads higher than 15 cause it is tough for any team to perform at that high of a level in the trenches of conference play. I like this one for a couple other reasons too…1) Memphis is now sitting by itself, undefeated, lonely, with a bullseye on their back, all of this is tough for youngsters to live up to and 2) this UTEP team is a sleeper in C-USA and has been marked on my calendar as a potential upset against Memphis. I won’t step into insanity today and say that UTEP will win, but by scoring 78 a game, I find it hard to believe that they will lose by 26. Memphis by 15.
Oklahoma State teased to +9.5 @ Texas Tech
The Cowboys put a pasting on Coach Bobby’s squad just 3 weeks ago, taking the game by 19 points in Stillwater. I will openly admit that the Red Raiders play significantly better at home, but with 8 losses on the season it shows me that they are by no means unstoppable. In fact I think this Tech team is NIT bound at best, and teams like that don’t have the mental or physical capabilities to turn a 19 point loss into a 10 point victory. Tech by 3.
Florida teased to +8 @ Arkansas
Not much to say on this one other than Florida happens to know how to win national championships, they have only lost 3 games this year, and they are getting no respect because they supposedly lost all of their talent to the NBA. Coach Donovan wants revenge on anyone that has to do with basketball, I can’t see Florida losing this one, much less losing by 8. Gators straight up.
