With only two games on the docket tonight for college hoops I had to show some luv and throw in a Greggy G NBA specialty. And to make sure that your hunger gets taken care of, I can guarantee a pic to pick ratio of better than 1:1. Why wouldn't you want to read on.....
Xavier @ UCLA -6.5
When you look on paper these two Elite 8’ers are pretty similar, but the fact of the matter is that the Musketeers are at a severe disadvantage in the paint today. Without a true center on the court most of the time, they will have to try to figure out a way to contain Kevin Love(18 pts/11 boards/game). My thought is that they will do this by rotating several players to him to keep the foul trouble situation in control. With a collapsing defensive scheme I believe the big day will be had by Collison for UCLA. When Xavier gets on the other side of the court it is going to be no secret that they need to push the ball up the court and refrain from getting into their half court offense. I know you are saying…’but T-Bone, why would they not want to run their offense?’ The answer is simple, the Bruins defense is stifling at 58 pts a game, and that is after playing in the toughest conference this year. So I think if Xavier can put up 75+ they can hang, but I am predicting more like 65, which tells me that UCLA is going to take this one by double digits.
Louisville +6 @ North Carolina
This one will be the Tyler Hansbrough vs. David Padgett showdown. We all know that Tyler would take Mr. Padgett in a one-on-one scenario, fortunate for the Cardinal tonight they are going to have 4 other players on the court. I really don’t think Pitino is going to be focused on stopping Tyler on the offensive end, but what he will do is make sure he doesn’t get any offensive boards and then attack the hell out of him with his athletic forwards while he is trying to play defense. The end result is too many fouls too early. So now that the paint is taken care of for the Redbirds they still need to figure out how to shut down the Tarheels guards with their own forwards. I believe that the Sosa/Smith combination can hang with Lawson/Ellington enough to equal out their performance. Not only do I see a Louisville cover tonight, I feel like the first upset of a 1 seed might be brewing. Louisville wins by 4.
Phoenix Suns -6.5 @ New Jersey Nets
Greggy G rolled on the Suns last night and I see the same thing happening tonight. I think tonight is more about the Suns trying to secure a 4 or 5 seed than the Nets trying to make the playoffs. Phoenix is on its fourth straight road game and come into New Jersey territory looking to make it an even .500 before heading back home. With only 10 games left, the Suns are the hottest team in West right now and still need to prove to the rest of the league that the Big Cactus trade helped more than it hurt. Suns by 12.
