Let me put a close to the college hoops season by saying that I wept like a baby watching Memphis drop a 9 point lead in the last two minutes. A Memphis win would have moved me from seventh to second in my friendly bracket pool, instead, I ended up with no cabbage in my pocket and looking through the white pages trying to find CDR's address so I could offer up some free throw lessons. It is a good thing that in the wonderful world of sports we can move on to our next sport in relatively quick fashion, and for me it is focusing on NBA playoffs and digging in on a very fresh MLB season. So good reading my friends.....
Denver +6.5 @ Utah
With 3 games left, the Nuggets need to take 2 of them in order to guarantee them a spot in the playoffs. They have the Jazz, Rockets, and Grizz left. So I’m thinking they are counting the Grizz as one, and the other 2 are up in the air. The bottom line, when you have a team full of athletic talent that all know what the playoffs are about, and then you focus them with the fact that the season is only 3 games long, I’ve got to believe that good things are going to happen. Look for a big game from Iverson. Not only does he shine in settings like this, but the Jazz are going to try to match Ronnie Brewer up with him, and Brewer is just coming off an injury as well. Even with AI, I believe the difference makers in this one will happen in the paint, if Camby & K-Mart can contain Boozer, Denver not only covers but they win. Denver loses by 2.
Philadelphia @ Washington -4
These are two pretty equal teams, but all things stack up on the Wizards side for this Saturday matchup. First, the Sixers lead the series this year 2-0, and yes that means advantage Wiz, we all know how difficult a series sweep is, especially at home. Second, the Wiz got pasted(74-102) at Detroit last night, advantage to them cuz they got to save 24 minutes of mental and physical fatigue for their starters while Philly was in a dog fight against the non-playoff Pacers and actually lost as well. Third, Washington is sitting as the 5 seed right now, and with a loss could drop down to the 7 seed, which would mean a playoff date with the Pistons(refer to previous pasting). Everyone in the East knows that a 7 or 8 seed means a first round exit this year. Fourth, Arenas and Jamison will be focused to get up big early so they can get some 4th quarter rest for their ailments. I see double digits all night long, Wizards by 11.
Detroit Tigers -140 @ Chicago White Sox
With the Tigers off to a 2-8 start, I am personally going to be looking at them every day with the moneyline cause everyone knows they are a playoff team this year. On top of that, I believe Verlander has received 2 wake-up calls recently….the Sox absolutely worked him at home last week, and Dontrell Willis going down last night to a knee injury. These are wake-up calls because you can guarantee Leland hit him upside the head and said ‘it’s about time you act like the friggin’ foundation of our pitching staff’. Verlander is enough of a work horse to listen, and quite frankly, it won’t matter who the Sox put up against him today. Tigers win on Verlander pitching.
