Teasin' T-Bone here, and giddy is a severe understatement to try to explain the level of excitement that I have going through my body right now. And after going 4 for 5 on Thursday night, I feel like I'm Tiger Woods lining up for an uphill 2 footer to win the Masters by 6 strokes. Okay, okay, I'm a friggin' football degenerate that gets his high from watching the cheerleaders sit on the guys hands when she is up in the air. There is so much action today that will pave the way for how the rest of the year plays out, so lets get to it.
Virginia Tech -9.5 @ East Carolina
I fully understand that ECU is gonna walk through Conference USA......
....and they will probably end with an equivalent overall record as the Hokies, but last time I checked the ACC is a whole different world from the delapitated C-USA. Beemer brings back Sean Glennon, which will be key to provide a stable passing attack while freshman RB Ryan Williams gets his feet wet. Bottom line, this comes down to the Blackburg defense, and Beemer has obviously got some tradition here. It's tough to win when you can't score.....Hokies win 27-10.
USC -20 @ Virginia
Most people have fallen into the hype of the Trojans QB issues, and I will be the first to agree that every team needs a solid play caller, but in the last 10 years, has USC every been lacking in talent? We all know that USC is going to be in contention for the national title again this year, and what will drive them there is the defense. And the last time I checked their defense will be in prime form for the opener. So I think the Vegas gods moved the line about 5 points just cause of the Sanchez factor, but what I believe is that Virginia is gonna be so pathetic this year that the other 21 starters for the Trojans will simply dominate the game. I also like the teaser on the under, which would move it from 43 to 49, and with the Cavs not getting more than a touchdown today, I don't see USC putting up more than 40. USC wins 35-7.
Illinois @ Missouri -9
If you have read any of my previous articles, you know what I think about Illinois and more specifically Ron Zook. I truly believe that the Orange Crush is getting some hype they don't deserve, yes they will be in the top 4 of the Big 10, but this is a different Big 10 then what the nation is used to. The Tigeres on the other hand, are returning the core of their offense and all but one of their defensive starters. And so I continue with my theme for the day, defense will be the showcase today. Watch for William Moore at safety for the Tigers, he plucked 8 picks last year and also has the build to play linebacker, he will simply be flying to the ball today and could be the guy that shuts down Juice. We will continue to see Daniels and Maclin dominate, but that is nothing new. Tigers go big....35-17.
